Surabhi Uppal

Surabhi Uppal
MD, MBBS

Dr. Uppal has always been passionate about science, health equity, and making a meaningful impact. This cemented her initial decision to apply for medical school. Surabhi attended Kasturba Medical College in Mangalore, India (2009-2015) and was fortunate enough to work with and hopefully help people from all walks of life. She is grateful for her experiences and the diversity of pathology that she was exposed to as she believes that it made her the physician she is today.

After medical school, Dr. Uppal completed her Internal Medicine residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, Creighton University in Phoenix, Arizona (2017-2020). During this period, Surabhi worked with adults from varied socio-economic backgrounds and a wide variety of medical concerns including chronic conditions in the inpatient, outpatient, and critical care settings. This also allowed Dr. Uppal to realize her interest in Infectious Disease and how it enabled one to think outside the box. Surabhi found it fascinating how the scope ranged from commonplace diseases to incredibly rare, region-specific, or chronic ones.

Subsequently, after residency, Dr. Uppal moved to Washington DC for her Infectious Disease fellowship at the George Washington University (2020-2022). This was increasingly relevant in the face of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic which affected everyone and everything. Surabhi aims to continue treating a multitude of infectious diseases, providing long-term care for people living with HIV, setting up a robust travel medicine clinic, and advocating for antibiotic stewardship.

Additionally, she remains an internist at heart, considers empathy to be one of her strongest suits, and enjoys developing long-standing relationships with her patients. Dr. Uppal looks forward to helping our community meet its primary care needs, providing age-appropriate screening, health maintenance, guideline directed therapy, and access to specialists.
